29 Jan A Holy Foundation
The theme of this issue of Kaleidoscope is Foundations and New Beginnings. As I pondered what this meant to me and what I could share with you this month, I found myself thinking about Moses. Specifically, what G-d said to him about the “foundation” on which he stood in the account of the burning bush as written in Exodus 3:2-5 (TLV).
2 Then the angel of Adonai appeared to him in a flame of fire from within a bush. So he looked and saw the bush burning with fire, yet it was not consumed. 3 Moses thought, “I will go now, and see this great sight. Why is the bush not burnt?”
4 When Adonai saw that he turned to look, He called to him out of the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!”
So he answered, “Hineni.”
5 Then He said, “Come no closer. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
To stand on Holy Ground, sanctified and separated from the rest of the world, can you imagine what that must have been like for Moses? Yet for those who believe, isn’t Holy Ground all around us? As we enter this new year, my prayer is that we build our entire existence on a Holy Ground foundation and that we, with the help of the Almighty, may live sanctified lives forever after.
With that thought in mind, I’d like to share my vocal rendition of the Geron Davis classic hymn, Holy Ground, culminating in several verses of Hallelujah. Please click on the link provided to listen and may you feel the warm embrace of the Spirit of G-d this day and always.
