Tu B’Shavat

1/27 – Tu b’shevat begins at sundown.  We typically celebrate this holiday (New Year of the Trees) by eating the 7+ species of food on the Tu b’shevat seder plate.  These foods are high in antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients which qualifies them as superfoods according to medical science.  Many people lose weight when they add these foods to their diet because they don’t eat as much.  They are satiating and healthy, full of health and wellness plus God’s blessings on top of that.  I will be enjoying the Tu b’shevat celebratory foods for 3 weeks in an effort  lose the 8 lbs. that I typically do while observing this celebration every year.

The Tu b’shevat foods are:

1. Figs
2. Dates
3. Olives
4. Grapes
5. Pomegranates
6. Almonds
7. Pistachios

(Some people add wheat and barley to the seder plate, however it’s best to limit your intake of grain)

Note: For 3 weeks it’s best to limit or eliminate sugar, pasta, potatoes, rice and other starchy carbs
