31 Oct The Enigma of You
“Trailing clouds of glory do we come from God who is our home,” wrote nineteenth-century English poet William Wordsworth in Lines from Tintern Abbey.
His sentiment was that before we were born, we had an existence in God. He could feel something more than he knew something. But we who know the LORD by the Word and by the Spirit understand that, indeed, we come from the conceiving Mind of the Beloved.
“B’RESHIT BARA ELOHIM ET HA’SHAMAIM V’ET HA’ARETZ—In (The) Beginning GOD created the heavens and the earth [from no-thing]” (* Genesis 1:1).
Conception is the start of things. The pregnancy of the opening words of the Holy Bible is so profound that no interpreter has yet plummeted its depth. Similarly, no amount of research will ever explain you. You are an enigma, even to yourself. Surely you are a mystery to the world of men. But not to God. God understood His plan concerning you before you ever came into your mother’s womb. Jeremiah 29:11-13 makes that clear.
“Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? Then the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:34-35).
That GOD would step out of His Transcendent State into union with His creation was a mystery so profound that it was barely visible even to the prophets, yet they were the oracles of its foreshadowing. Genesis 3:15 first told it. Isaiah 7:14 furthered the theme since an almah was a marriageable woman, yet the child of that woman who was prophesied was a sign from God—a miraculous child, more significant than the foreshadowing miracle-child of the Patriarchal mother, Sarah. And like the creation miracle of the Spirit of God who hovered over the surface of the primordial abyss, this child—begotten through the Holy Spirit who overshadowed the virgin— was the start of a new Humanity—a Second Adam—a heavenly impartation that was forever to unite GOD the Creator to His Creation.
An enigma to the natural mind, to be sure. But then, that’s the way with God. He does not confine Himself to our limitations of time and process. Nor does He need our permission to do what only He can do.
That’s why you, too, are an enigma. You are rooted in Eternity with God who conceived you in His mind before he ever gave you an entry into the world.
Ponder this profound truth. Then seek to know Him as you have never known Him. He will counsel you in your inward parts, and the world will see the brilliance of His design as you grow through life unto your eternal destiny.
Love and Blessings,
Dr. Bron Barkley
